It all began here. President Ulysses S. Grant signed the law which made this region a National Park on March 1, 1872 thereby making Yellowstone the very first National Park.

Yellowstone National Park spans an area of 3,468 square miles and is located primarily in the upper northwest corner of Wyoming and is known for it's wildlife and it's many geothermal features. The chief among these geothermal features is Old Faithful Geyser where hundreds of people gather daily to watch the geyser erupt.

But the geysers are not the only features that make this park one of the biggest vacation spots in the United States. The park also comprises lakes, canyons, rivers and mountain ranges. It is also home to the Yellowstone Caldera. The largest super volcano on the continent. Half of the world's geothermal features are in Yellowstone and are fueled by this ongoing volcanism.

Yellowstone National Park is the centerpiece of the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem, the largest remaining, nearly intact ecosystem in the Earth's northern temperate zone.
