Bandelier National Monument

New Mexico also has a geography as diverse as its population. Being generally semi-arid, there are also areas on continental and alpine climates. From the wide deserts to broken mesas to high,snow-capped peaks the only thing lacking in New Mexico's geography is an abundance of water.

Golden Aspens

New Mexico contains millions of acres of protected forests and numerous areas protected by the National Park Service. These include the Carson National Forest, the Gila Wilderness, Bandelier National Monument, Carlsbad Caverns National Park and the Valles Caldera National Preserve.

The capital city, Santa Fe, is home to a large artistic community. The city hosts several museums of Spanish colonial, international folk art, Navajo ceremonial art, modern Native American and other modern art. One of the most popular is the Georgia O'Keefe Museum which is dedicated to the late artists work. Santa Fe also hosts the annual Santa Fe Indian Market which is the oldest and largest juried Native American art showcase in the world.
